Asian Lady Beetles (Ladybugs)

The Asian lady Beetle (Harmonia axyridis) that looks similar to our native lady bugs are a source of many homeowners concern.  As their name implies they are native to Asia and were brought into the United States to help control pests like aphids (plant lice).  Since this time their population numbers has grown out of control.

The Asian beetle likes to over-winterize  in  our homes. Typically starting in October, the beetles can be seen on the outside of houses and buildings, getting ready to move inside, where they will spend the winter in attic spaces and between wall voids. However, it is very common to see the multicolored Asian lady beetles in our living spaces clustered on ceilings, walls, around lights, and in windowsills.

Not only are they pesky and stinky (as they disperse a defensive odor when when they feel threatened and can stain curtains, walls, fabrics, etc.), but they are also responsible for an allergic reaction similar to hay fever like symptoms for some people. Roughly 25% of the population are allergic to the Asian beetles.

Fortunately, we can prevent the majority of Asian beetles (lady bugs) from ever entering your home.  Call us to discuss how we can help you keep away or get rid of Asian Beetles.
